Who doesn't love date night? Now take date night, and extend it to a whole day. Awesome, right? While I currently am still in school for another few weeks in Santa Barbara, I visit him most weekends up in Santa Cruz. This weekend, we decided to go to San Francisco for the day and cross of some much-anticipated jaunts off of our to-do list.
We arrived a bit early and decided to take shadow for a walk. S.F. is pretty metropolitan, but there are some cute parks scattered throughout the city. Afterwards we had an appointment to donate blood. Kind of a weird activity, trust me I know. I've been donating blood since I was 16 and it is a really small way we can help out our communities. If you've never done it, I would highly recommend checking it out! It's definitely not as scary as some people might think and you get all the cookies you want afterwards. Just remember to eat a good breakfast before you go in. I personally made sure my blood sugar was decent with a Starbucks cake pop (the pink ones are the best).
We walked out of the donation center feeling a bit tired and wanted to re-energize. This of course meant a trip to our favorite take-out dim sum place. Dim sum is Chinese brunch that is served in small portions. There are usually really good dumplings and buns and if you're an adventurous foodie, you can almost always find some crazy things (like chicken feet). We like to go to Happy Bakery on the corner of Irving St. and 24th Ave. My favorite are the shrimp dumplings and sesame balls. We grabbed some grub and a taro boba milk tea and hopped in the car again to go to Crissy Field.
Crissy Field is one of the best places in S.F. in my humble opinion. It's a great area to walk your dog around, have a picnic, or throw a frisbee around. The weather was perfect, and other than Shadow eyeing the pork buns, everything was pretty relaxing.
After lunch we walked around and enjoyed the sunshine. There were a bunch of people out doing the same and Shadow got to meet some other pups.
After hanging at the park for a few hours, we hopped back in the car again and headed towards the Ferry building area. I had bought tickets to a comedy show a while back. To say we were excited was a bit of an understatement. His favorite comedian is Dan Cummings, so when we found out that he was going to be putting on a show in S.F. it was a no brainer that we were going. The show was amazing and we left the club with our faces hurting from smiling so much. I'm a big fan of switching up the boring dinner+movie date routine, and definitely think that comedy shows are a great alternative. It's much more fun in general to try something new with your loved one and create memories through new experiences (and all that cheesy stuff). Anyways that pretty much sums up our Saturday. Definitely looking forward to next time's date day! I'm thinking north maybe? Someplace with lots of wine?
